Break out the Red Bull and get ready to (nine, ten) never sleep again: Freddy Krueger, everyone's favorite knife-fingered, red-and-green-sweater-clad, burnt-faced murderer, is set to haunt dreams once again next spring ... and now there's a creepy new trailer to prove it.Produced by Michael Bay and directed by music-video auteur and first-time feature helmer Samuel Bayer, this new 'Nightmare on Elm Street' will put a contemporary spin on Wes Craven's blood-soaked 1984 horror classic about a child molester who is burned alive by angry parents and reaps his vengeance by stalking and killing (in very inventive ways) teenagers as they dream.
The cast is teeming with up-and-coming young stars, such as Kyle Gallner ('Smallville'), Thomas Dekker ('Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles'), Rooney Mara ('Youth in Revolt') and Kellan Lutz ('The Twilight Saga: New Moon'). But let's face it, the big story here is that for the first time ever, new blood is being brought in to play Freddy Krueger, a role that made Robert Englund famous and, well, also kind of pigeonholed him.
While we're sad to see Rob go (c'mon, you know there's a cameo for him in there somewhere), we've been a little giddy to see what Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley ('Little Children,' 'Watchmen') would bring to the mix. Judging by the trailer, he will not disappoint. The pepperoni pizza-looking face and cartoonish one-liners that came to characterize Englund's Freddy are a thing of the past. Instead, we get a Freddy that looks a lot like Voldemort and rasps out his lines like a man hell-bent on one thing: revenge (which he is).
Adding another interesting layer to the reboot is that the film will tackle Freddy's origin story and even seems to insinuate that maybe, just maybe a pre-dream-haunting Krueger wasn't a child molester after all. Interesting. Will this new 'Nightmare' be better than the old one? Will Jackie Earle Haley make an even scarier Freddy than Robert Englund? Sound off below. And remember: "One, two, Freddy's coming for you" ... in theaters everywhere on April 30, 2010.

Michael Bay never dissapoints? Are you serious?
All in all the movie looks like a decent attempt at a remake, although the original will never be equaled in the impact it had.

I grew up when Freddy was in my nightmares! I love these sequels. I think these sequels were better than Friday the 13th (too predictable). Now I am really excited and cant wait till this movie comes out in April...geesh what a teaser. Wish these horror flicks come out during Halloween, adds more to the holiday!

Doesn't do much for me... An original avvid fan of the Elm Street series. I will wait for video and not high on my queue list either if even. Those of us who grew up on these films are getting sick and tired of everyone trying to "remake" the classics and doing a poor job of it. Friday the 13th for example, what a piece of crap, Halloween, another turd... These movies are being geared toward the unintelligible population of teens(notice I didn't say ALL)who giggle at drug related gags and sexual references and then are so weak in story, scares and effects it is pathetic. Those of us who are seeking a good time feel ripped off. We are wising up however and not running out to donate any more of our funds to these films and wish the producers and directors the best of luck. Hey, I have an idea... how about an original story? What a concept. Something we haven't seen before perhaps? Michael Bay, how about something along the lines of the Island(fantastic film)??

I completely agree. We need new stuff! Not cheesy, supposedly more modern versions of the old stuff. The old stuff was good. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it was good then, don't try to re-make it.
I'll wait for video too lol.

In my opinion, the remakes are fine when the new young people want it in a modern look, and if you like the old ones, keep watching the old ones, i loved those movies and i thought it was great that they are doing more remakes because younger people dont like watching older movies, the quality is cheesey and stuff.... it is a good idea to make more money and get the younger attention.

You have summed it up perfect for me.Agree completely. There is no more originalty anymore, just remakes of great movies that they turn into bad movies knowing their going to make lots of money because the original was so great.I'm losing hope for a good origanal imaginitive horror movie that doesn't rely on gore and T&A to make us forget there is no plot.I feel sorry for this generations horror future.

Don't you, Wally. We here feel the same. That is why we at TornSpace Films will be bring you Fractured Reality later next year. We are taking it back to where horror was great and original!
Jacob at 2:06AM on Sep 30th 2009
I do agree that not every remake has been good, Friday the 13th is the WORST by far. However I do feel that Michael Bay brings originality to the movies in ways maybe unoticed. For example, in Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) everything was dull, dirty, and insanely uncomfortable. I felt he did a good job by modernizing a very old film to todays expectations. I think he'll do the same with this one. Hopefully, anyway. I dont think they're trying to "beat" the old versions. I think we should just watch this as if it were an entirely new movie and not constantly compare it to the older version.

I also agree to this. get something new. micheal bay has remade everything and barely works on new things. if your going to remake something. dont do a crap job on it. transformers was the best remake. and even that could have been done better. if your going to remake crap thats all it is crap. if your going to remake a movie then actually put some thought into it and make it better not worse with cheesy crap. if anything make it scareyer then the last. and when i mean scarey i mean making me want to go under my bed at 32. not only will you get more fans of origanal movies to go. but the kids will want to come 2 and watch it with parents. or even there friends. the BIG point is. if your not going to remake an origanal like and more scarey then the origanal dont fck with it leave it alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree more. I'm not saying "Nightmare on Elm Street" should have been up for an Oscar or anything, but what they are doing to the classics of all genres is embarrassing. It's like in the "Freddy vs. Jason" movie, they completely disregarded the fact that Freddy's disfigurement was caused by nothing more than a fire, and felt compelled to give him sharp demon-like teeth and cat-like eyes. For no good reason, all because these idiots thought it would make him 'more scary'.
Honestly, I don't even mind the occassional remake of a classic if they stay true to the original storyline, and don't try to fix things that they feel was broken. Like the remake of "Phsycho" in my opinion was well made until the scene where they have Norman Bates masterbating, completely nullifying Alfred Hitchcock's ability to make the viewer create scenes with there own theater of the mind. This looks like crap.

Kudos to you for being one of the few smart people in the world right now. I have no clue why Hollywood seems to have run out of new ideas for movies and has instead turned to the 80's and begun (unsuccessfully) remaking the "classics" we all grew up with. Halloween and Friday the 13th were horrific and not in the intended "horror film" way. Personally if Rob Zombie ruins another movie with his spin on things, I may go insane.
As for "Nightmare", I get that the times have changed, that it's a new generation that would like to be introduced to the Freddy we all grew up with, knew and loved... but changing the actor is different then changing everything but the hat and sweater. We know Freddy with the red burned face, not paper mache' mask... we know the leather glove with sharp knives, not the odd steel looking thing they've developed now... We know that Freddy was a child molestor and that the parents of Elm Street burned him, not some innocent man that was wrongly accused only to try and gain sympathy from the viewers... and CMon! The voice? The one-liners? It's what made Freddy undisputably the best villan of our generation.
I for one will not be wasting my money on this movie... IF I get curious enough, I may borrow it from the library, but there's no way they're getting a dime from me. My only question is, Why did Wes Craven sign off on this to begin with??

Hello~ at 12:16AM on Oct 4th 2009
Well, the only part i'd even go to see was when he was being chased down by the angry parents. The original[s] look better but we'll just see.
